Title:Environmental and economic aspects of landfill leachate cleaning
Abstract:Researches were conducted in the context of Dobrava at Ormož sustainable municipal landfill site leachate cleaning with its turn back to the landfill. The leachate cleaning was carried out in a constructed wetland whence the water was being pumped to the landfill via the underground irrigation system. In the period of time from the year 2004 to 2015 the meteorological parameters were monitored as well as the analyses of physical and chemical parameters carried out. After the year 2008 the effectiveness of the CW leachate cleaning began to show a slight decrease, therefore since 2013 the leachate water was discharged to the leachate cleaning of the industrial plant with reverse osmosis which enabled the optimal process of leachate cleaning. The attempt of leachate cleaning of municipal landfill site carried out by dosing special eco-tabs at the inflow into the CW is understood to be an innovation and the contribution to science, although the results are promising a slight improvement, however the lack of effectiveness has still been present. After the landfill site closing down, the leachate cleaning is suggested to be carried out with the CW, which shall present – with the replacement of soil and vegetation – and considering its eco-systemic and economic advantages, an adequate approach yet for 30 years after the landfill being closed down in accordance with the legislation.
