Abstract:

Title:
Geography and green jobs in Slovenia
Abstract:
Slovenia is a small country with many well-preserved natural resources. This makes Slovenia a country with good potential to develop green economy and within this the development of green jobs. Even the strategy of European committee titled Europa 2020 claims that there cannot be economic growth without green economy (Karba idr. 2014, 7). The development of green jobs requires education for green jobs where geography has a significant role. This thesis deals with the connection between geography and green jobs in Slovenia. Natural resources of Slovenia that enable the development of green jobs in the country are presented. The definition of green jobs and their examples in Slovenia and in the world are also presented. An analysis of where green jobs can be found in Slovenia is made. Further on, we checked if the jobs where geographers are employed are green jobs. To analyse it, we used the criteria from abroad. A chapter in the thesis also presents the role of University of Maribor in the education for green jobs and the role of the study of Geography in the education for green jobs. A curriculum analysis of the bologna study of Geography on Faculty of Arts in Maribor was made. The analysis focuses on the representation of the themes in the curriculum of geography that are connected with green jobs. The analysis shows that the curriculum of Geography on Faculty of Arts needs to be modernised since the curriculum does not reflect the real state of the themes of green jobs that are included in the curriculum.
