Title:DIFFERENCES IN COMPETITON CHILDREN IN TOWN AND ON COUNTRYSIDE
Abstract:In my master’s thesis entitled (Competition inequalities between pupils in cities and those in the countryside) I have presented the relationships among peers, peer groups, and the role of the peers in the life of pupils and youngsters. I have described the way the peer groups are formed, the criterias which form the group, as well as the positive and negative influences of the fellows. Moreover, I have introduced the sociometric method and the popularity among the peers. Also I defined the term competition, its negative sides and reasons for it. I have defined self-image and its relation to competition. However, I have recorded a few cases of competition named by different teachers in different schools. In the empirical part of the master's, I have collected data in four primary schools through the help of the questionnaire. I have gathered information as regards to the competition and its relevance among pupils, their self-awareness about competition, and their opinion regarding girls'-and-boys' striving. I asked them whether they have noticed competition in their classroom and in what aspects. Furthermore, I was interested whether it matters to them to be better than other classmates in any of the fields, and if so, what are the fields where the latter matters the most (sports, educational achievement, friendship or fashion style). In addition, I wanted to find out the reaction of pupils to the new outfit of their peers, better grades and the recognition from their teacher. There were 203 pupils who took part in this research. 101 were those from the city (50 girls and 51 boys), whereas 102 were from the countryide (53 girls and 49 boys). The results have shown that the majority of pupils are competitive but quite a few of those are not aware of it. I have found out that the inequalities in competition of pupils in cities and the countryide are minor but of statistical importance.
