Abstract:

Title:
Wind, hydro and solar energy in Slovenia
Abstract:
Nature is undoubtedly an indicator of changes caused by burdening the environment. Transport and the use of fossil fuels are the largest source of these negative impacts. Fossil fuels can only be replaced by renewable sources of energy, and harnessing them will be essential in the future. Renewable energy sources include solar, wind, hydro-power, geothermal, tidal energy and biomass. Slovenia's diverse terrain offers a large potential for the utilization of renewable energy sources. Although the number of wind, hydro and solar power stations in the country is increasing, there are still many opportunities for the construction of more. The largest potential lies in solar energy, which is the most cost-effective energy source per the set criteria in Slovenia. Unfortunately, national legislation hinders the growth and development of renewable energy. The abundance of renewable sources in the country is such that the use of their potential alone would enable Slovenia to become a completely energy self-sufficient country.
