Abstract:

Title:
STRESS AND WORKLOAD NURSES IN INTENSIVE THERAPY
Abstract:
Platforms: The load or overload is one of the most common causes of stress. The occupation of nurses is considered as one of the most stressful professions. Intensive Care Units provide a high level of specialized care of life-threatened patients. Nurses provide continuous 24-hour demanding life care to the most deprived patients, that is why the aim of the thesis is to determine, how are nurses in units of intensive treatment facing the stress and loads. Methods: For the production of the thesis, we used descriptive method and quantitative methodology. Through the study of domestic and foreign literature, we presented the theoretical foundations. As research instrument we used an anonymous questionnaire, which consists of 20 questions. The research sample consisted of 40 nurses in the intensive care unit. Results: According to the respondents` opinion, the daily contact with life endangered patients and the very nature of work in the intensive care unit is stressful and burdensome. 20 employees (50.0 %) think, that this kind of work is very stressful and 19 (47.5 %) that it is stressful. Understaffed situation, strenuous physical status and increased complexity of the work with patients lead to increased workload. Symptoms of diseases as a result of the stress state of employees are most often present as fatigue, headaches or insomnia. Conclusion: We believe that nurses have sufficient scientific knowledge to identify signs of stress and to identify the causes of stress and loads. It is necessary to think positively and look forward to each new day
