Title:Natura 2000: Involvement of local people in the management of Natura 2000 sites in the municipality Črenšovci
Abstract:A sustainable management that keeps the feature of the landscape, biodiversity and ecosystem functioning is accessible only with the involvement of the local population. Natura 2000 is a key pillar of nature protection in the EU. EU as a part of public opinion polls regularly checks the views of the general public about biodiversity and implements awareness programs. Slovenians are well-informed about Natura 2000; participation at the local level remains relatively low. In this research, we examine knowledge, opinions and interests of the inhabitants of the municipality Črenšovci about the area of Natura 2000. We found out that knowledge of the Natura 2000 area is at a very low level. The vast majority of respondents agree that Natura 2000 brings additional environmental requirements, which present a problem in the management of natural resources. To our satisfaction the inhabitants of the municipality Črenšovci showed great interest for the preservation of biodiversity in the local environment. There is a question how to manage the resources of nature in a sustainable way on the understanding of landscape dynamics.
