Abstract:
Irska je vse od sredine osemdesetih let dvajsetega stoletja beležila gospodarsko rast, ki je bila posledica večanja tujih investicij. Leta 2001 je zaradi poka dot.com balona in vojne v Iraku prišlo do zastoja gospodarske rasti. Cene nepremičnin so prav tako že daljše obdobje rasle in v letu 2001 je vlada, na pobudo lobistov in gradbincev, sprejela širok nabor davčnih spodbud in olajšav pri novogradnjah in adaptacijah. Ta ukrep je ponovno zagnal irsko gospodarstvo, vendar s to razliko, da je sedaj prišlo do nastanka nepremičninskega balona, ki so ga v veliki meri napihovale tudi banke s svojo kreditno politiko. Banke so vire za povečano kreditiranje pridobile na medbančnem trgu in ko je prišlo po padcu Lehman Brothersa do zamrznitve slednjega, so ostale brez likvidnih sredstev. Velike izgube bank in vodenje proračunskega primanjkljaja sta Irsko privedla do točke, ko je s strani Evropske centralne banke bila prisiljena zaprositi trojko za mednarodno finančno pomoč.

Title:
ANALYSIS OF THE FINANCIAL CRISIS IN IRELAND
Abstract:
From the mid-80s Ireland had been experiencing economic growth which was the consequence of boost of foreign investments. In 2001, the burst of dot.com bubble and the war in Iraq caused a slowdown of economic growth. Property prices had been rising for some time and in 2001 the government acted on lobbies and builders’ initiative and implemented a wide spectre of tax incentives and credits for new buildings and renovations. This measure restarted Irish economy, but this time, also because of credit policy of banks, there appeared the housing bubble. Sources for increased crediting came from the interbank market, which finally froze due to collapse of Lehman Brothers, leaving banks without liquid assets. Enormous bank losses and the budget deficit brought Ireland to the point when it was forced by European central bank to ask the troika for international financial help.
