Abstract:Knjige so pomemben del otrokovega življenja, saj pozitivno vplivajo na njegovo inteligenco in hkrati razvijajo navado branja. Predstavila sem osem retoričnih figur: aliteracijo, anaforo, epiforo, retorično vprašanje, eksklamacijo, ukrasni pridevek, hiperbolo in onomatopejo. Podala sem primere za vsako figuro in prikazala, katere retorične figure so ohranjene v prevodu, katere se »izgubijo« ter katere so le delno ohranjene; dodala sem svoje predloge in rešitve.

Title:TRANSLATING FIGURES OF SPEECH IN THE BOOK HORRID HENRY AND THE MEGA-MEAN TIME MACHINE
Abstract:Books are an important part of a child's life. They effect on child's intelligence positively and are important in developing reading habits. Reading helps children to develop mental abilities, language skills and vocabulary, which build the foundation for better learning and understanding. Translating children's books may seem easy but it is a very demanding process. The translator has to know cultural differences, language, style and at the same time preserve the meaning of the original text. The problems often occure when translating wordplay, humor and some figures of speech, which can be easily »lost« in translation. In my thesis I focused on the translation of figures of speech in two stories from the book Horrid Henry and the Mega-mean time machine: Horrid Henry's hike and Horrid Henry and the Mega-mean time machine. I introduced eight figures of speech: alliteration, anaphora, epiphora, rhetorical question, exclamation, epithet, hyperbole and onomatopoeia. For each of the figures I added examples and showed which figures are preserved, which are »lost« and which are partially preserved in translation; I gave my suggestions and solutions.
