Abstract:Prometne nesreče, ki nastanejo zaradi nenadnega zapuščanja voznega pasu so pogoste, poškodbe so lahko resne.

Title:THEORETICAL BASIS FOR INSTALLATION OF RUMBLE STRIPS ON MOTORWAY HARD SHOULDERS
Abstract:Traffic accidents caused by a sudden drift from the travel lane are very common. Because of their frequency and severity of injuries these accidents represent an urgent problem that requires attention and action. Many drivers are tired, sleepy or distract behind the wheel, which affects their ability to perform the driving tasks. The consequences of the conversion of the driver´s attention from the road and the events around it can be fatal. Distracted driving is nowadays even a bigger problem because of the increased use of the electronic devices. One of the safety measures for alerting tired, drowsy, fatigued or distracted drivers on the highways is the application of the shoulder rumble strips. A sound and vibration stimulus, caused by driving over the rumble strip helps the drifting motorists to correct their path of steering. If the driver fails to return to the lane and correct his driving path, this warning improves the driver´s reaction and thus eases and reduces the severity of the crash. The installation of the rumble strips is in Republic of Slovenia an almost unknown road safety measure. This master´s degree on practical case discusses the reasons and possibility of the implementation of rumble strips on motorway´s hard shoulders.
