Abstract:
V diplomskem delu je predstavljeno prevajanje mitoloških izrazov v profesionalnih in ljubiteljskih podnapisih ameriške serije Nadnaravno (Supernatural). Mitologija je del zgodovine in kulture naroda, zato so mitološki izrazi obravnavani kot kulturno zaznamovani izrazi. Prevodi izrazov so bili analizirani po prevajalskih strategijah kulturno zaznamovanih izrazov Diaza Cintasa in Santamarie Guinot. Namen analize je bil ugotoviti razliko med prevajanjem izrazov profesionalnega in ljubiteljskega prevajalca. Predvideno je bilo, da ljubiteljski prevajalec ne bo toliko časa namenil težje prevedljivim mitološkim izrazom, saj je njegov namen čim prej po izidu novega dela serije posredovati vsebino občinstvu, ki ne razume jezika. Zato se bo pri težje prevedljivih izrazih držal rabe sposojenke. Po drugi strani pa je bilo pričakovano, da se bo profesionalni prevajalec bolj posvetil izvoru in vsebini izraza ter njegov pomen bolj približal slovenskemu občinstvu. S tem namenom je bila narejena tudi podrobnejša analiza mitoloških bitij, ki se pojavljajo v seriji. Ugotovljeno je bilo, da se mitološki izrazi v seriji med seboj razlikujejo glede na razširjenost. Pri izrazih, ki so del angleškega jezika, nimajo pa ustreznice v slovenskem jeziku, je bila največja razlika med ljubiteljskim in profesionalnim prevajalcem. Ljubiteljski prevajalec je v takih primerih uporabljal predvsem sposojenko in kalk, profesionalni pa se je z uporabo različnih strategij potrudil izraze približati občinstvu.

Title:
The Translation of Mythological Expressions in The Supernatural Series Subtitles
Abstract:
In my diploma paper the translation of mythological expressions in professional and fan-made subtitles of American series Supernatural was presented. Mythology is a part of national history and culture, which is why mythological expressions are regarded as cultural-bound terms. Translation of the expressions was analyzed by translational strategies of cultural-bound terms by Diaz Cintas and Santamaria Guinot. The purpose of the analysis was to determine the difference between the translation made by a professional translator and a fansubber. We assumed the fansubber will not spend a lot of time on translational challenging mythological expressions, since his aim is to forward the content of the new episode to the audience, which does not understand the language, as soon as possible after its release. That is why he will use the loanword while translating the challenging expressions. On the other hand, we expected the professional translator to explore the origins of expression and try to bring the meaning closer to the target audience. That is why the detailed analysis of mythological beings in the series was made. It was established, that the mythological expressions in series are differently widespread. With the expressions, which are a part of English language, but do not have an equivalent expression in Slovene language, there was the biggest difference in translation made by a professional translator and translation made by a fan. In such cases, fansubber usually used a loanword or a claque, while the professional translator mostly tried to bring the meaning of the expressions closer to the goal audience, using different strategies.
