Abstract:

Title:
DANCE DRAMATIZATION OF HANSEL AND GRETEL IN THE LIGHT OF THEATRE AND THEATRE EDUCATION
Abstract:
Dance represents one of the activity groups that are very important for the integral development of a child. Through activities in the field of dance, the child relaxes and acquires certain skills, abilities and knowledge. Dance dramatization is one of such activities; the process of putting together a dance dramatization could be compared to the process of staging a theatre show. The main aim of the final thesis is to monitor the creation and development of a dance dramatization of Hansel and Gretel in a group of preschool children on the basis of a case study. The final thesis is empirical and divided into a theoretical and an empirical section. The theoretical section opens with an overview of general characteristics in the field of dance education on a preschool level. Particular emphasis is placed on theatre theories, which are presented from the viewpoints of four different authors: Draga Ahačič, Henrik Neubauer, Robert Pignarre and Zdravko Zupančič. The aim of the empirical section was to determine based on observing a group of children during the process of staging a dance dramatization of Hansel and Gretel whether or not a final product that the children could act in front of their parents would emerge in the given time frame, as well as the children's level of motivation, their success in identifying with a certain role, which roles would appeal to them most and to what degree the children would require leadership when putting together the show. The study sample encompassed 21 children attending the Boris Peče kindergarten. They were between three and six years of age. The study results showed that regardless of their age, the children were able to learn a given dance dramatization in a given time frame when led by an adult, that the motivation level differed from child to child and that the roles varied in popularity.
