Abstract:V diplomski nalogi predstavljam parlamentarne volitve v Prekmurju med svetovnima vojnama. A sedaj opozicija z raznoraznimi obljubami več ni dosegala uspehov. Ljudje več niso nasedali obljubam in so ostali na strani vladne politike in njihovih kandidatov.

Title:PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS IN THE INTERWAR PERIOD IN PREKMURJE
Abstract:The diploma thesis presents the parliamentary elections in Prekmurje region between the two world wars. Following the 900 years of living under Kingdom of Hungary, people of Prekmurje region became citizens of a new country. The new country also brought a multiparty system with elections to the parliament. More than in the rest of Slovenia, it was the religious and national diversity typical for the region, which contributed to the result of elections. There was a relatively low turnout due to the fact of low level of political awareness. Finally the Catholic block took the win at the elections along with the Slovenian People's Party and its demands for autonomy. People of Prekmurje had lived a long time by Christian principles and so they trusted the party that was closest to it. By increasing the number of parties in the following elections, the turnout increased. Political immaturity and tempting promises ensured success to non-Slovene parties as well. Thus the Croatian Stjepan Radić was even victorious in 1925. But since he was only making empty promises, as fast as he won the elections, he also experienced a total political defeat and went down rapidly. The thirties brought the dictatorship and the political success of the Murska Sobota politician and industrialist Josip Benko, who always supported the government policy because of personal interests. Returning of the opposition in elections 1935 and 1938 once again brought political diversity. But this time there was no success with all kinds of promises they were making. People no longer fell for their promises and remained on the side of government's policies and with their candidates.
