Abstract:

Title:
PATH PLANING IN THE PROCESS OF ACQUISITION OF BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES IN THE GENERAL HOSPITAL CELJE
Abstract:
Optimal route planing in the transport of biological samples addresses two issues. The first one is, which hospital departments need to be included in the route, while the second one order in which the departments should be visited. To accommodate the first issue a decision support system suggested in accompanying research [23] need to be applied. As soon as the set of departments that have to be visited is known, the optimal ordering of the visited departments on the route and optimization has to be done. This is the topic of the underlying research project. The second issue is formulated as traveling salesman problem, so optimization mechanism, which is implemented in applied software, is based on techniques and methods for solving related general problem. To develop a suitable decision support system for resolving the second issue of addressed problem, we have to choose a suitable general problem, create an optimization model and use an adequate optimization procedure. The solution proposed here relies on software tools geographic information system and aplication ArcLogistics. A two-phase optimization procedure is designed and applied to transport of biological samples. Treated process can be significantly improved if we use the developed optimization procedure for including departments on regular tours and for route optimization.
