Title:Awareness of women about contraception during breast-feeding
Abstract:Our diploma paper investigates the following issues: women’s awareness of the possibilities of contraception during breast-feeding, the types of contraception used during breast-feeding, whether they received a sufficient amount of information on this topic, and the role of nurses in medical-educational work. The paper presents possible methods of contraception, as well as methods of contraception during the lactation period, including the method of lactational amenorrhea. By the use of an anonymous questionnaire our survey was performed on a sample of 60 women of varying age, in a Child Care Center Adolf Drolc in Maribor. The aim of this study was to discover to what extent women are aware of the use of contraception during breast-feeding and where and how they obtained essential information on the topic. We also investigated/researched if they believe that breast-feeding is a reliable means of protection against unwanted pregnancy. Based on the analysis of our questionnaires, we concluded that most women (91.6%) are well informed on the use of contraceptives during breast-feeding and that the same percentage also applies them. We discovered that most women received information about contraception during breast-feeding from their gynecologist, not from the nurses; and that one percent less than a half of them believes that breast-feeding is not a reliable means of protection.
