Abstract:
V moji diplomski nalogi z naslovom Slavic words in the English language sem poskušala predstaviti sposojenke slovanskega izvora v angleškem jeziku. Najprej sem predstavila zgodovino angleškega jezika ter slovanske jezike. Sledi seznam slovanskih besed v angleščini, katere sem analizirala po posameznih kategorijah in poskušala ugotoviti število prevzetih besed, njihov pomen in uporabo. Zanimalo me je ali se pomen sposojenih besed razlikuje od prvotnega pomena. Uporabo besed sem predstavila s primeri. Prišla sem do zaključka, da je prevzetih slovanskih besed po številu veliko, vendar pa večina teh besed ni v pogosti uporabi.

SLAVIC WORDS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
Abstract:
In my diploma thesis titled Slavic words in the English language I present borrowed words of Slavic origin in the English language. After presenting a brief history of the English language and Slavic languages, I list Slavic words. The words from the list are analyzed according to the different categories of various vocabulary areas. I list the words, their meaning and the use of borrowed words. I also try to present which words have changed their meanings and the use of words exemplified in sentences. The analysis shows that there are lots of borrowed words, but most of them are marginal in the English vocabulary.
