Abstract:Črnogorska država je pod različnimi imeni obstajala več stoletij, toda o njeni zgodovini je malo znanega. Najmanj podatkov imamo o najstarejših obdobjih oziroma zgodovini Doclee.

Title:MEDIEVAL DUKLJA AND HER ROLE ON THE BALKANS
Abstract:The country of Montenegro has been known for many centuries under different names, but its history has not been fully revealed yet. There is not much data on the oldest periods or the Doclea period. The Roman city of Doclea got its name after the Docleatae, an Illyrian tribe that inhabited the treated area during the Migration Period. The city was demolished multiple times, and today we can observe only the ruins. However, the tradition came back to life into the 9th century, and the city became the centre of the region with the same name. The Principality of Duklja was first discovered in the 9th century. The evidence is presented by a Greek text including Christian symbols on a lead seal of the Archont Petar of Duklja, but the historical evolution of Duklja has its roots in the reign of the Princ Vladimir (the end of the 10th century and the beginning of the 11th century). Duklja reached its peak during the reign of the Princ Vojislav. The power of the Principality was soon acknowledged by its neighouring countries, the Byzantine Empire being among them as well. The Principality became the first Balkan country to gain independence from the Empire, as it won the battle in 1042. After the Great Schism (1054), the Princ Mihailo decided to support the clergy from Zeta who demanded more ecclesiastical independence. The Archdiocese of Doclea-Bar was recognised in 1089, when the Pope Clement III gave a pallium to the Archbishop Petar. However, after Mihailo died, the dynastic wars brought the country to its collapse, and Rascia gained rule over Duklja.
