Abstract:V diplomskem delu je preučena možnost uporabe rastlinskih barvil za barvanje volne, namenjene izdelavi unikatnih pletenih in vezenih izdelkov. To so navadna breza, navadna lakota, navadni oreh in velika kopriva.

Title:OPTIMIZING A WOOL DYEING PROCESS WITH NATURAL DYES AND COMPUTER - AIDED EVALUATION OF DYES
Abstract:The aim of the diploma thesis is to study the possibility of use of natural dyes for wool dyeing, which would be later used for unique knitted and embroidered products. In order to achieve this, extraction of dyes was performed, using the plants which are widely present and available in our area, giving mainly yellow, red, brown and green shades. These plants are the birch tree, the Lady's bedstraw root, the nut tree and the big nettle plant. Different mordants (Al-, Cu- and Fe-) were used during different phases of the extraction and/or dyeing process; we have varied the pH and concentration values. These additions help us achieve larger variety of the colour palette as well as an enhanced fixation of dyes to the fibres. Woollens were later home washed and dry cleaned in a laboratory in order to find out the colour fastness. A colour palette, which was achieved by using natural dyes, was evaluated using colour metrics CIELAB system and presented graphically as a palette of warm colours, derived from the use of different plant parts in presence of mordants.
