Abstract:Uvod: Zapora dihalne poti zaradi tujka predstavlja četrti najpogostejši vzrok nenamerne smrti. Obstaja več načinov razreševanja zadušitev s tujki, eden izmed njih je uporaba sukcijskih pripomočkov. V zaključnem delu so prikazani najpogostejši tujki v dihalnih poteh, odstranjeni s sukcijskim pripomočkom LifeVac. Hipoteze smo analizirali s Pearsonovim Hi-kvadrat testom. Rezultati: Analizirali smo podatke 1062 oseb. Najpogostejše starostne skupine so bili dojenčki (26,65 %; 283/1062), malčki (22,22 %; 236/1062) in starostniki (19,77 %; 210/1062). Najpogostejši tujki so bili zrezek, piščanec, bombon, grozdje in hrenovka v štručki.

Title:Most common airway foreign bodies, removed with suction device
Abstract:Introduction: Foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) is the fourth most common cause of unintentional death. There are several ways to relieve suffocation due to FBAO, one of which is the use of suction devices. This final thesis presents the most common foreign bodies in the airway, which were removed by using the LifeVac suction device. Methods: We conducted a secondary data analysis of the LifeVac database. Since 2016, data has been collected via a form filled in by users. Hypotheses were tested using Pearson's chi-square test. Results: We analysed data from 1062 people. The most common age groups were infants (26.65%; 283/1062), toddlers (22.22%; 236/1062) and the elderly (19.77%; 210/1062). The majority of victims (70.24%; 746/1062) had no known diseases or other health problems, but about one in eight victims was reported to have a neurological condition (11.96%; 127/1062). The most common foreign bodies were steak, chicken, sweets, grapes and hot dogs. We found that the incidence of these varied by age group. We also noticed that the type of airway obstruction was associated with the presence of the disease. Discussion and conclusion: For these foreign bodies and people at higher risk of choking, extra care is needed to prevent or detect it in time. New research is needed to determine the efficacy and feasibility of suction devices and their place in future guidelines.
