Abstract:
Metode: Izvedli smo pregled literature v tujih podatkovnih bazah PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Web of Science in v ScienceDirect. Potek pregleda literature smo prikazali s PRISMA diagramom poteka. Moč dokazov smo presojali s hierarhijo dokazov. Izvedli smo kritično oceno člankov po JBI ocenjevalna orodja. Uporabili smo deskriptivni pristop in vsebinsko analizo.

Title:
Experiencing a patient´s death by nurses in emergency department
Abstract:
Introduction: Caring for patients who suddenly and unexpectedly pass away in the emergency department (ED) can pose a significant mental and emotional challenge for healthcare professionals, coupled with inadequate management of such challenges, can lead to frustration, dissatisfaction, diminished quality of life, and ultimately emotional, physical, and psychological illnesses among nurses. Methods: A literature review was conducted using foreign databases, including PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect. The literature review process was illustrated using the PRISMA flow diagram. The strength of evidence was assessed following the hierarchy of evidence. Critical appraisal of the articles was performed using the JBI Critical Appraisal Tools. We presented analysis using descriptive approach. Results: We identified a total of 2582 studies, and after the final selection, we included 4 relevant studies with thematic appropriateness. We highlighted the main category Nurse´s experience when caring dead patients in ED, within which we defined the following subcategories: environmental and organizational barriers, emotional perception of death, and key elements of care.. Considering a critical assessment of quality, we rated three studies with a moderate quality assessment and one study with a high-quality assessment. Discussion and conclusion: Caring for adult patients who die in the ED represents a challenging and demanding aspect of healthcare work. Nurses aspire to provide high-quality care to dying patients and their families.
