Abstract:Varovanje objektov in premoženja je sestavljeno iz mehanskih, tehničnih in fizičnih elementov varovanja. Osnovni namen varovanja objekta in premoženja je preprečevanje škodnih dogodkov na varovanih območjih zaradi požara, vloma oz. ropa in varovanje premoženja pred poškodovanjem, odtujitvijo ali uničenjem. Tudi v sedanjem času kvalitetna mehanska zaščita ustrezno zagotavlja in dopolnjuje varnost objekta in premoženja.

Title:Replicating physical keys from images with a 3D printer
Abstract:The protection of buildings and property consists of mechanical, technical and physical elements of protection. The basic purpose of building and property protection is the prevention of damaging events in protected areas due to fire, burglary or robbery and protection of property from damage, alienation or destruction. Even today, high-quality mechanical protection adequately ensures and complements the safety of the buildings and property. Generally, it is used for additional protection of buildings that are already protected by technical security systems. With the development of 3D printing materials and methods, the security issue of physical key replicas is increasing. With the development of software that creates 3D models for printing, the risk of reconstructing keys from images increases; this applies to images of the key itself, as well as images of the lock. This is especially true for mechanical locks with a cylindrical core, which only use the profile of the key to unlock. From the image of the key, we can therefore create a 3D model of the key, which is a functional replica. The simpler the lock mechanism, the faster and easier the replication; in some cases, it only takes a few minutes. The time mostly depends on the print complexity. Due to its low melting point, high thermal resistance, low thermal expansion, good layer adhesion, the most popular and affordable material is PLA, which is the ideal material for this purpose especially because of its strength. Preventing duplication of keys will require an adaptation of security based solely on mechanical locks.
