Title:The impact of training to concentric failure on the development of repetitive strength in bench press
Abstract:The aim of this paper was to determine what impact training to concentric failure has on the development of repetitive strength in push press. This research included ten individuals, aged 18–25 years. Repetitive strength was measured twice, i.e. prior to and after the research. At the first training session, an eight-repetition maximum was measured in both groups, in order to determine the initial strength of each individual. In all following training sessions, progress of the experimental group who trained to failure was being observed, while the control group was limited to three repetitions of the eight-repetition maximum measured at the first training session, which was fixed. At the last training session, we measured the eight-repetition maximum again in both groups and compared the results. Repetitive strength was measured with individuals doing the push press exercise. The research was carried out in 30 days, with individual training sessions taking place every five days. It was determined that those who trained to failure better adapted to the development of repetitive strength, even though those who did not train to failure also increased repetitive strength. Both groups reported about the comparable feeling of general exhaustion following a training session; however, the experimental group pointed to a feeling of higher exhaustion right after the maximum series.
