Abstract:Migracije so svetovni proces, ki poteka že tisočletja in predstavlja enega izmed največjih globalnih izzivov. (»Rooftop extension«) 2. Implementacija zapuščenih oz. degradiranih objektov oz. območij v središču mesta z namenom vzpostavitve urbane regeneracije obravnavanega predela. (»Regeneration«) 3. Vzpostavitev novih sosesk na praznih mestnih površinah, namenjenih stanovanjski gradnji. (»Integration neighborhood«) Vsa modularno zasnovana bivališča so ob nastanitvi migrantov (prosilcev za azil, oseb s priznano mednarodno ali začasno zaščito) namenjena tudi ostalim skupinam ljudi - mladim posameznikom, parom in družinam, starejšim osebam, študentom in v primeru prostih kapacitet “low budget” turistom.

Title:Model for the integration of modular migrant housing in the case of the city of Maribor
Abstract:Migration is a global process that has been going on for thousands of years and is one of the greatest global challenges. The migration of people is increasing and, as the trend shows, will continue in the coming years. Slovenia’s most important migration processes include the immigration of people from Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995 and the migration of refugees between 2015 and 2016 due to the Syrian civil war. The reason for implementing the subject of the master’s thesis was also the current topic of Ukrainian migrants, which has triggered new migration flows in Europe from February 2022 onwards. In terms of positive integration of migrants, one of the key factors is a suitable living environment such as temporary accommodation in registration centres or similar accommodation capacities as well as permanent accommodation after the migrant has received international protection. Most often, due to their poor social situation, migrants live outside the city centres in isolated communities. Another key factor for the positive integration of migrants is to promote the development of socially and ethnically mixed communities, leading to the interaction between migrants and the local population. This is reflected in the location of affordable housing and reception centres in existing residential areas close to the labour market, education, health services, recreational activities and similar. The main objective of the master’s thesis was to create a universal model for the integration of housing for migrants in different locations. The model is demonstrated in the city of Maribor, where migrant housing was placed in three selected locations based on a broader analysis of Maribor and the search for suitable micro-locations. New building types or typologies were designed, including both temporary housing (as an alternative to living in a registration centre) and permanent housing. These were applied in three ways at the selected locations: 1. Extension or placement on unused flat roofs of residential buildings. (“Rooftop extension”) 2. Implementation of abandoned or degraded buildings or areas in the city centre to establish urban regeneration of the area concerned. (“Regeneration”) 3. Establishment of new neighbourhoods on empty urban areas intended for housing. (“Integration neighbourhood”) Furthermore, all modular designed dwellings are not only aimed for migrants (asylum seekers, people with recognised international or temporary protection), but also for other groups of people - young individuals, couples and families, older people, students and, in the case of free capacities, “low-budget” tourists.
