Abstract:Kalčki predstavljajo dober vir vitaminov in mineralov ter so v prehrani ljudi zelo priporočljivi.

Title:Sprouts as an alternative livestock feed
Abstract:Sprouts are a good source of vitamins and minerals and are highly recommended in human nutrition. With the help of a questionnaire, it was researched whether the production of sprouts for animal feed is known among farmers and employees in the agricultural sector of Slovenia. It was assessed if sprouts are economically justified on a medium-sized farm keeping 20 dairy cows, and whether barley sprouts can replace part of the concentrates in the diet. In the survey, 60% of respondents said that they were unaware of the possibility of including sprouts in livestock feed, and 40% that they had heard about it from various sources. Given the climate change and winter conditions, they think barley sprouts would be a good alternative to provide fresh feed. Given the composition of the feed ration for 20 dairy cows, it is not possible to completely replace concentrates with barley sprouts. They can only replace part of the concentrates and grass silage. A feed ration for a dairy cow costs € 4.88 per day with sprouts, and € 3.49 without the barley sprouts.
