Abstract:
V magistrski nalogi smo predstavili značilnosti globalizacije in ekonomske neenakosti. Podrobneje smo si pogledali, kako merimo ekonomsko neenakost in skozi zgodovinski pregled prikazali trende globalne neenakosti. V sklopu empirične analize smo analizirali ekonomsko neenakost, globalizacijo, gospodarsko rast in življenjski standard v izbranih državah v razvoju: Mali, Sudan, Argentina, Sierra Leone in v izbranih razvitih državah: Švica, Švedska, Slovenija in Združene države Amerike.

Title:
Globalization and economic inequality
Abstract:
In the master's thesis, we presented the main characteristics of globalization and economic inequality. We took a closer look at how we measure economic inequality and displayed trends of global inequality through a historical overview. As part of the empirical analysis, we analyzed economic inequality, globalization, economic growth and living standards in selected developing countries: Mali, Sudan, Argentina, Sierra Leone and in selected developed countries: Switzerland, Sweden, Slovenia and the United States of America. We also analyzed the impact of economic inequality on the economic activity and living standard, and the relationship among economic inequality and globalization. Our results of Granger causality tests show that in the analyzed developing countries, economic inequality does not affect the economic activity, measured by GDP, except in Sudan, where economic inequality negatively affects GDP. Furthermore,we found out that economic inequality does not affect living standards, measured by HDI, except in Mali, where income inequality negatively affects HDI. Globalization does not affect economic inequality in the analyzed developing countries, except in Sierra Leone, where globalization affects wealth inequality. We found out that in selected developed countries, economic inequality does not affect the economic activity nor living standard, and globalization does not affect economic inequality.
