Abstract:

Title:
Outdoor mathematics teaching with application of digital technologies
Abstract:
Lessons outside classrooms offer many advantages for students as they get to experience authentic learning circumstances. This learning method is more appealing, interesting and produces better results, and above all encourages the students to find a better connection between acquired knowledge in school and everyday life. Adding technology to this learning method increases students’ motivation and at the same time enables a far greater palette of possibilities to prepare tasks. Experts believe that the combination of technology and learning outside the classroom enables far better learning achievements of students. This master's thesis studies how this learning method affects students’ achievements in mathematics. For this thesis, the pedagogical experiment was chosen as the research method. In the control group, the lessons were carried out in the classroom and in the experimental group the students dealt with their tasks on a mathematical-themed stroll. The results of the final test showed no major differences in the knowledge of students of the control group and the experimental group for both 6th and 8th grade. The results showed that the students in the experimental group found it somewhat easier to solve tasks that included identifying mathematical concepts, while the students from the control group achieved better results in drawing and solving more complex tasks. The empirical part also includes some methodical suggestions for giving lessons outside classrooms for some mathematical lessons in the last three years.
