Abstract:Izhodišče in namen: V Sloveniji smo priča epidemiji debelosti otrok. Raziskovalna metodologija: Uporabili smo kvantitativno raziskovalno metodologijo.

Title:Elementary schoolchildren and obesity
Abstract:Theoretical introduction: The starting point and the purpose of the research: We are witnessing the childhood obesity epidemic in Slovenia. We live in a so-called "obese environment" in which we face too much food input into a body, but the consumption of energy or food is too low. The purpose of the research was to determine the causes of primary school children obesity, their attitude toward physical activity and a healthy diet. Research methodology: Research methodology: We used a quantitative research methodology. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The research sample consisted of 91 surveyed students from 5-9 elementary school class. 51 girls and 40 boys participated. Data were analyzed and presented with Microsoft Excel, descriptively and graphically. Results: The study identified how many students are overweight and how many students have obesity problems. We find that students who go to upper classes weigh more and therefore have higher BMI than students who go to lower classes. Most students are fit for their age and height, eat well and exercise regularly. Discussion and conclusion: The survey showed that the data collected are very good and show improvement guidelines regarding primary school students and obesity. However, it is still important to persist in the health education of students about the importance of healthy eating and the importance of physical activity.
