Title:Obstojnost in kakovost prstnih sledi na lepilnih trakovih pri ekstremno nizki temperaturi, povzročeni s tekočim dušikom

Abstract:Namen prispevka: Prstne sledi so na lepilnih trakovih pogosto tudi na njihovi lepljivi strani, zato je za njihovo obdelavo treba lepilni trak najprej uspešno odstraniti s podlage. To lahko storimo s preprostim fizičnim odstranjevanjem traku, ki pa je enkrat bolj in drugič manj uspešen. Lepilne trakove je možno odstraniti tudi z uporabo tekočega dušika. Ker so prstne sledi precej občutljive na zunanje dejavnike, se poraja vprašanje, ali lahko ekstremno nizka temperatura tekočega dušika, ki znaša −195,8 °C, vpliva na prstne sledi. Namen prispevka je odgovoriti na vprašanje o primernosti tekočega dušika kot sredstva za odstranjevanje lepilnih trakov ter kakšen vpliv ima tako nizka temperatura na obstojnost in kakovost prstnih sledi. Metode: Glede tega smo opravili empirično raziskavo, v kateri smo primerjali rezultate izzivanja prstnih sledi na lepilnih trakovih, ki smo jih s podlage odstranili ročno in z uporabo tekočega dušika. Raziskavo smo opravili na 80 vzorcih in na skupno 240 prstnih sledeh. Za izzivanje prstnih sledi smo uporabili Sticky-side prašek, kakovost izzvanih prstnih sledi pa smo merili s številom dobro vidnih in definiranih morfoloških značilnostih, za kar smo uporabili računalniški sistem AFIS. Ugotovitve: Rezultati raziskave so pokazali, da je tekoči dušik primerno sredstvo za odstranjevanje lepilnih trakov in da kljub ekstremno nizki temperaturi ne vpliva na obstojnost in kakovost izzvanih sledi. Omejitve/uporabnost raziskave Omejitev raziskave so povsem laboratorijski pogoji, vendar rezultati kažejo, da so uporabljene metode uporabne v praksi. Izvirnost/pomembnost prispevka: Gre za prispevek, ki v Sloveniji prvi empirično preučuje vpliv tekočega dušika na prstne sledi in je namenjen vsem, ki se ukvarjajo s področjem daktiloskopije in forenzike.

Title:Durability and Quality of Latent Fingerprints on Adhesive Tapes Exposed to Extremely low Temperatures of Liquid Nitrogen
Abstract:Purpose: Latent fingerprints can usually be found on adhesive side of adhesive tapes so for the purpose of latent fingerprint development adhesive tapes have to be removed from the surface first. This can be done simply by hands but results can vary significantly. Adhesive tapes can also be removed using liquid nitrogen. Since latent fingerprints are very fragile type of evidence the question is whether extremely low temperature of liquid nitrogen (–195.8 °C) could tamper latent fingerprints. Purpose of this article is to answer if liquid nitrogen is suitable for removing adhesive tapes and what is the influence of extremely low temperature on quantity and quality of developed fingerprints. Design/Methods/Approach: An empirical research was conducted by comparing fingerprint development results on adhesive tapes that were removed by hands and those removed by liquid nitrogen. Research was conducted on 80 samples and 240 latent fingerprints. For development of fingerprints Sticky-side powder was used and their quality was assessed by the number of clearly visible morphological characteristics measured by AFIS system. Findings: Research results have shown that liquid nitrogen is suitable for removing of adhesive tapes and that extremely low temperature does not temper latent fingerprints. Research Limitations / Implications: Strict laboratory conditions represent limitation of research results but despite this, the results indicate that methods from the research could be applied in everyday practice. Originality/Value: This article is the first in Slovenia that empirically studies influence of liquid nitrogen on latent fingerprints and it is intended for fingerprint experts and forensic experts in general.
