Title:Comparison of slovene vocabulary of the roma and non-roma children
Abstract:The purpose of the thesis, entitled Comparison of the Slovenian Vocabulary of Roma and Non-Roma Children, was to investigate whether and how much the Slovenian vocabulary of Roma and non-Roma children differ. In the theoretical part we examined the development of speech, the pre -linguistic and linguistic period, and the factors that influence the development of speech and vocabulary. We examined the origin of Roma, the Roma language, obstacles encountered in the integration of children in kindergarten. In the empirical part, we used the method of practical work. We used pictures to check what kind of vocabulary do the non-Roma and some Roma children have at the same age. We were checking if the kids recognized all the pictures, whether they properly named them, and whether they were able to talk about them. The research was carried out in one of the kindergartens in northeastern Slovenia, which includes Roma children. The study involved 8 children, of whom 4 were Roma and 4 were non-Roma, and the age of children was between 4 and 5. Through the results we have come to the conclusion that speech and vocabulary have improved in both groups of children.
