Abstract:Teorija gibalne količine elementov lopatice (angl.

Title:Application of the BEM method for wind turbine efficiency calculation
Abstract:The BEM (Blade Element Momentum Theory) method is an analytical method used to calculate the characteristic forces acting on a wind turbine or propeller. In the thesis we collected the theory of analytical calculation using the BEM method, designed a program for the analysis of wind turbines and evaluated the analytical results. For the calculation, we used a model of a three-blade wind turbine with a radius of 0.45 m and the aerodynamic profile NREL S826. We found that BEM method corrections were necessary for accurate calculations using the BEM method, and a calculation was made using high induction factor corrections, rotational augmentation corrections, and corrections for losses at the top and bottom of the blade. With the optimization method of the differential evolution algorithm, we have shown the process of optimization of the wind turbine at the operating point of the tip-speed ratio λ = 5,89. The highest calculated efficiency of the optimized geometry reached a 12% higher efficiency than the calculated efficiency of the basic geometry, but the disadvantage of the optimized geometry was a greater force of air resistance on the windmill, in comparison to the original geometry.
