Abstract:Magistrsko delo prikazuje urbanistično arhitekturno rešitev severovzhodnega dela starega mestnega jedra Ptuja oz. ureditev lokacije med dominikanskim samostanom in arheološkim parkom Panorama, torej območja nekdanjega vstopa v mesto skozi mestna vrata, srednjeveškega obzidja, ter nekdanje rimske ceste.

Title:Revitalization of the old city centre Ptuj
Abstract:This Master’s Thesis displays the urbanistic architectural solution of the north-eastern part of old city center Ptuj. That includes the arrangement between the Dominican monastery and the archaeological park Panorama, meaning, the area where the old city entrance was located through the city gate, the medieval walls and the former Roman avenue. It is a very important area, archaeologically speaking, which is calling for a building, intended for storage and representation of the archaeology of a great significance for the entire Europe - archaeology of Ptuj town and the Lower Podravje region. The location is an undefined edge of the town, the area, which shall connect the medieval city with the Roman archaeological centre - Panorama, the former center of Poetovio Roman colony. Ptuj, the centuries treasury and the oldest medieval town in Slovenia, was an important centre and transit area in the Roman Empire. Nowadays it is still hiding lots of undiscovered gems, but also lots of discovered treasures are hiding within the premises of buildings unsuitable for display and storage of such treasuries. Realisation of the design for the archaeological museum would bare a significant urban development for the Ptuj city, as well as consequently also economical, aesthetic and turistic benefits for the centre. Developing the museum design further into actualization, the restoration of the old city centre might also be initiated.
