Abstract:
V prihodnje bo le z dobrim medsebojnim sodelovanjem in nadaljnjim izobraževanjem moč zagotoviti kakovostno izvajanje spirometrije.

Title:
Spirometry in primary care
Abstract:
Theoretical background: Spirometry is the most used pulmonary function test, it is a so-called golden standard for diagnosing and monitoring respiratory diseases. Accurate measurements are needed, that is why the role of the test operator is very important, especially when it comes to taking care and motivating the patient. The main purpose of our research was to determine the obstacles that the nurses face while performing spirometry in patients older than 18 years old. Research methods: For the research part we used qualitative methodology. We interviewed twelve nurses that perform spirometry on a daily basis. To analyse the interviews, we used the inductive analysis of the collected data. Results: We discovered that success of test can be affected by operator’s engagement, patient’s interest in the test, and by the lack of patients understanding of instructions. The problems can be easily solved with repeating verbal instructions and by demonstrating a correct performance of the test. Discussion and conclusion: Health care providers face many problems while performing spirometry. The only way we can guarantee high quality spirometry in the future is with cooperation and education.
