Diskusija in zaključek: Dolgoročna izpostavljenost stresu vodi v preobremenjenost in posledično do sindroma izgorelosti.

Title:Stress and strain of nursing staff in the emergency department
Abstract:Introduction: Working in an emergency medical service is stressful and straining, since the condition and number of patients can suddenly change dramatically. This can play a significant role in the occurrence of stress, which consequently affects the psychophysical readiness of employees. Methods: For the purposes of writing this thesis, we used a descriptive research method and quantitative methodology. In order to construct the theoretical starting points, we used domestic and foreign literature. In the empirical part, we used an anonymous questionnaire which consisted of 18 questions. The questions were of a closed type, partially open type and Likert scale. The target population was employed in nursing care at one of the University Clinical Centers in Slovenia in the field of emergency medical service. Results: The surveyed population believes that working in emergency medical service is stressful and straining, and that the stress they experience in their working environment also affects their personal or family life. As consequences of stress exposure, they often list fatigue, insomnia and an increase of unhealthy habits. Discussion and conclusion: Long-term exposure to stress leads to overload and consequently to burnout syndrome. Moreover, the stress experienced by the employees working in emergency medical service is often reflected in their home environment.
