Abstract:Podeželje skriva veliko podjetniških priložnosti, ampak le za tiste, ki to želijo in znajo izkoristiti.

Title:ENTREPRENEURIAL OPPORTUNITIES IN SLOVENIA: TOURIST FARM CASE STUDY
Abstract:The countryside offers a plethora of business opportunities; however, only for those who are determined enough and know how to take advantage of it. One of the most known types of self-employment, often found in the countryside, is the registration of a complementary activity on a farm. It implements farm-based activities. These activities can be carried out by people in the countryside or in villages. In many cases, the operators of the complementary activity live on farms, their families often offer them help and provide support. The complementary activity on a farm generally possesses all the characteristics of a family-run business, because the family helps the proprietor with the respective work. For the most part, one of the children inherits the business. Certain criteria must be met to complete the registration. The law determines the registerable activities for the complementary activity on a farm, meaning these activities cannot be registered as part of other types of self-employment. People tend to be self-employed for different reasons: to ensure one´s survival, personal satisfaction, to support family members, and other. Therefore, the following question emerges: Are people self-employed because this is their last resort of obtaining an income or because they came up with an excellent business idea? This diploma studies the changing numbers of self-employed in the past. By doing so, we were able to determine the ratio of self-employed men to self-employed women. Using an interview, we discovered that the registration of a complementary activity on a farm is a simplified and uninterrupted process, the national authorities are willing to provide support and easy access to information which is needed to set up the complementary activity. Our findings also show that women, in relation to men, are still the »gentle gender«; however, they are equally respectable in the world of business.
