Abstract:Zaznava ogroženosti in strah pred kriminaliteto sta podobna, a vendar različna pojava. Raziskovalci so namreč različno definirali ogroženost, zaznavo ogroženosti, pomanjkanje varnosti in strah pred kriminaliteto.

Title:Perceived Risk in the Real and the Virtual World
Abstract:Perceived risk and fear of crime are similar yet different occurrences. Fear of crime cannot be properly understood without a thorough study into the process of perception that arouses a sense of endangerment and fear in individuals. Results of studies into fear of crime and factors causing it are inconsistent, as researchers' definitions of risk, perceived risk, lack of security and fear of crime vary considerably. The thesis seeks to establish whether factors contributing to one's fear of crime have a statistically significant influence also when it comes to young people's perception of risks in the modern social environment. Results of an on-line questionnaire Perceived Risk in the Real and the Virtual World have shown that the virtualisation of the lives of youth brings new types of security threats that the young are unaware of but cannot easily counter. It has been established that most young people use the internet on a daily basis, which is why they can be considered a vulnerable social group. Young people perceive risks both in the real and virtual worlds. Contrary to what studies into the sense of risk have found, we have established that it is men rather than women who detect more risks in the real and virtual worlds. Younger adolescents and those who have finished primary or secondary school also manage to perceive more risks. Compared to men, women more often turn to their social network in case of problems, and also take more security measures in the real world. Men on the other hand have more computer skills and are consequently more confident about countering virtual threats. Information and communications technology are blurring the differences between the real and virtual words in youth's assessing of their risk perception. The young are aware that the mixture of the two intertwined worlds enriches and expands their social environment while also posing a threat to their security. The survey has found that young people make no distinctions between the real and virtual worlds but rather perceive them as a unity and that they cannot imagine their lives without the virtual world.
