Title:THE COMPARISON OF SCHOOL SYSTEMS IN SLOVENIA AND CHINA
Abstract:In the theoretical part of this diploma work the comparison of the school system in Slovenia and in China is introduced with focus on the Slovene and Chinese mathematical curriculum. In the comparison the details regarding the teacher's working day and educational needs for teachers in Slovenia and in China are captured. The achievements and reasons for the success of Chinese children when taking part in the international examination of knowledge PISA are discussed. In the empirical part of this diploma work the qualitative research is introduced, where the narrative interviews were carried out in order to get the insight in the mathematical education experience of Chinese children in child's point of view likewise the teaching assistant's point of view. The research scooped two Chinese children, aged nine and ten years and their teaching assistant, who has been living and working in their family for four years and is sister of the author at the same time. The sight at child's point of view to mathematical education was the main reason and to compare it to the view of their teaching assistant. The analysis of the narrative interviews indicated as the children find it to have too many mathematical lessons a week on the timetable and being overtaxing by setting too much homework. It has to be emphasized as the interviewees entertain disinclination to mathematics and do not have good grades. The research points out that child's point of view to mathematics after all depends on the school, that he or she attends, teachers and mentors from which he or she is being taught, his or her abilities, personal interests, working and school habits and inclusion of their parents in the process of education and upbringing.
