Title:VEGETARIANISM AND ATTITUDE TO ANIMALS AMONG TEACHERS OF THE FIRST TRIAD OF PRIMARY SCHOOL
Abstract:The purpose of the study was to determine the extent to which vegetarianism is widespread among teachers of the first triad of primary school, teachers’ attitudes to animals, if so, why they choose to have animals in the classroom, how they deal with prejudice toward animals, what are the teachers’ attitudes to all living beings and what are their values. The study was conducted on a sample of 200 teachers, aged less than 30 to more than 50 years, using a questionnaire. The findings show that the majority of the interviewed teachers are omnivores, but the number of vegetarians, vegans and raw vegans is not negligible. Some answers differ, because they were influenced by the teachers’ eating habits. The survey has also shown that no matter what the teacher’s diet, the maltreatment of animals and nature is not acceptable. The teachers are aware that they set an example to the pupils, and as such, try to handle everyday situations in the best possible way. Although the study focuses primarily on animal rights and vegetarianism, the topic is presented from different angles in order to better match the importance of the subject.
Keywords:teacher, vegetarianism, animal rights, attitude to animals, animals in the classroom, effects of animals on humans
