Abstract:

Title:
THE EGYPTIAN CULT OF DEATH AND ITS REPRESENTATIONS
Abstract:
The thesis entitled The Egyptian cult of death and its representation presents beliefs and the way of accepting death by ancient Egyptians, based on the Egyptian book of the dead, substantiated with actual pictorial realization. The thesis is divided into three content sets, although this division is blurred, since these sets are interconnected and complement each other. At the beginning we briefly present the historical and periodical definition of the Egyptian civilization, with consideration of the period and way of Egyptian beliefs, and the most important Deities, based on image examples. The main part of the thesis is devoted to the culture of burying of the dead from all the burial and funeral rites, which were based on the Myth about Osiris, and to the Egyptian book of the dead as the basis of Egyptian post-mortem beliefs in all of its forms and developmental levels through time. The end of the thesis discusses changes, deviations and collaborations that took place in the entire culture of burying of the dead through different periods of Egypt with emphasis on the Pharaonic Renaissance in the 25th and 26th dynasty. This is followed by a short chapter about historical facts and hypotheses in the sense of a summary of all of the stated. The purpose of the thesis is to present the beliefs and culture of burying of the dead in ancient Egypt based on the Egyptian book of the dead and to substantiate it with actual pictorial realization.
