Abstract:Private security industry has experienced a major expansion in the recent decades. It's growth is especially noticeable in the number of private security companies. We can notice security staff, who is implementing security services, in most of stores, public events, when transporting valuable goods and elsewhere. Security officers at their work interfere with the human rights and fundamental freedoms. In order to perform their work effectively, professionally and especially legally, they have certain powers or measures. The precise definition of security guards powers is therefore crucial. With legally defined powers, security guards can perform their job legally, it's easier to control their work and finally, people are more aware of their profession. The countries we have analysed in the thesis vary by geographical location, size and level of economic development, so we wanted to find out whether there are differences regarding the powers of security guards and how they are defined in the legislation. Private security legislation differs among countries and this also applies to the powers of security guards. It was expected that the more developed countries would have legally regulated powers, but most of them didn't mentioned powers of security guard in their legal regulations. Many of less developed countries have better and more precisely regulated powers of security guards.
