Pripravljene maghemitne nanostrukture smo suspendirali v vodi z znano koncentracijo As(III) in Cr(VI) ionov. S spreminjanjem različnih eksperimentalnih parametrov (mase adsorbenta, pH, časa, koncentracije As(III) in Cr(VI) ionov) smo ugotavljali učinkovitost maghemitnega nanoadsorbenta za odstranjevanje As(III) in Cr(VI) ionov iz vode.

Title:REMOVAL OF ARSENIC AND CHROMIUM FROM WATER BY MAGHEMITE NANOSHEETS
Abstract:The purpose of the diploma was the synthesis of two-dimensional magnetic maghemite nanostructures in the form of nanosheeets by topotactic transformation, characterization of nanosheets by XRD and BET method and the investigation of potential applications of maghemite nanosheets for adsorption of As(III) and Cr(VI) ions from water. Prepared maghemite nanosheets were suspended in water with a known concentration of As(III) and Cr(VI) ions. By changing various experimental parameters (time, weight of the adsorbent, pH, concentration of As(III) and Cr(VI) ions) we determine the effectiveness of maghemite nanosheests to remove As(III) and Cr(VI) ions from water. The results show that we have successfully synthesized maghemite nanoadsorbent with BET surface area 118.79 m2/g, a pore volume 0.258 cm3/g and an average pore diameter 8.684 nm. Prepared maghemite nanosheets have a very good adsorption capacity for removal of As (III) ions, but are less suitable for removal of Cr (VI) ions. Adsorption is fast and under optimal conditions the equilibrium is established after 20 minutes with adsorption efficiency at least 90 % for As(III) ions. It is also possible to reuse adsorbent, because of its magnetic properties.
