Psihološki vzroki prehranjevalnih težav otroka so redkeje prepoznani.
Keywords:otroci, rak, kemoterapija, nezadostni vnos hrane, prepoznavanje vzrokov, prehranske intervencije, zdravstvena nega.

Title:IDENTIFYING INADEQUATE FOOD INTAKE DURING THE TREATMENT OF CHILDREN WITH CHEMOTHERAPY
Abstract:In this master’s thesis we have defined the problem of inadequate food intakes in children treated with chemotherapy. We analyzed the dominant causes of inadequate food intake, nutritional assessment checks, nutritional interventions and the responsibility of nurses in addressing child nutrition. The purpose of this master’s thesis was to investigate how often nurses at the department of children's hematology and oncology identify the causes of inadequate food intakes in children being treated with chemotherapy. It was also intended to determine the frequency of exercised nutritional assessment checks and nutritional interventions from the perspective of nursing. Research methodology: In the research, quantitative methodology was used. We performed opinionated survey of nurses at the department of children's hematology and oncology. The data were collected by using purpose-built questionnaire. The results of the survey were processed using computer programs Microsoft Office Excel 2010, and IBM SPSS Statistics. Research results: We found out that the pain due to mucositis is the most commonly identified cause of inadequate food intakes in children. Followed by frequency are nausea and vomiting, altered taste, loss of appetite and an altered smell. Psychological causes of eating problems in a child are rarely identified. Results show the dispersion of nurses´ opinions on the frequency of nutritional assessment checks and nutrition support interventions on the ward. Conclusion: Nurses are aware of their responsibilities in the identification and management of inadequate oral food intakes in children being treated with intensive chemotherapy. At the same time the need for introducing useful protocols of regular nutrition screenings, nutritional assessment checks and nutritional support interventions carried out by nurses is evident.
Keywords:children, cancer, chemotherapy, inadequate food intake, the identification of causes, nutritional interventions, nursing care.
