Title:THE INFLUENCE OF HOME ENVIRONMENT ON CHILDREN'S PHYSICAL AND SPORT ACTIVITIES
Abstract:Diploma paper The influence of home environment on children’s physical and sport activities consists of theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part highlights factors that influence children’s development and motor skills of preschool children. It also emphasizes the family role and place of residence to involve children in physical and sport activities; as well as the importance of physical and sport activities on children’s health and integrated development. The empirical part presents the results of research. The results were gained with the help of a questionnaire, which was carried out among 140 parents, whose children attend preschool education in a town (Kindergarten Ptuj) and preschool education in the countryside (Kindergarten Cirkulane). We tried to find out the influence and role of home environment on children’s physical and sport activities and came to the following conclusions: there is only a slight difference between town and countryside children according to the frequency of engagement in physical and sport activities with their parents; town children are more physically active, as they are more involved in organized sports practice, than countryside children; the most common sport activities of town and also countryside children and their parents are walking and running; the main cause of parents and children’s physical inactivity – regardless of place of residence – is the lack of time; parents are – irrespective of place of residence – aware of the importance of physical activity on children’s integrated development; children of younger parents are more involved in physical and sport activities than children of elder parents; and finally, children of higher educated parents are more involved in physical activities than those with less educated parents.
