Title:Vpliv vrste veziva in aditiva na lastnosti vodnega premaza v primerjavi s topilnim sistemom

Abstract:Namen raziskave je ugotoviti, katera vrsta veziva na vodni osnovi omogoča formuliranje premaza, ki bo imel najbolj primerljive lastnosti glede na alkidni topilni sistem in kateri dodatki omogočajo podaljšanje odprtega časa v taki meri, da je mogoče doseči zadovoljive aplikativne lastnosti. Namen je tudi določiti reološki profil vodnih premazov in jih primerjalno okarakterizirati na topilne sisteme. V okviru magistrske naloge smo testirali različna veziva na osnovi novih tehnologij ter končne lastnosti primerjali z lastnostmi konvencionalnega alkidnega sistema. Vzorcem smo določili reološko krivuljo, mejne napetosti, elastični strižni modul, odprti čas, indeks nezatekanja, ocenili razlivnosti in določili mehanske lastnosti. Ker same reološke meritve ne povedo veliko, smo poskušali najti korelacijo z meritvami zatekanja in oceno razlivnosti. K vsakemu vezivu smo dodali serijo aditivov in izvedli analize odprtih časov ter poskušali ugotoviti ali se katera kombinacija veziva in podaljševalca odprtega časa približa topilnemu alkidu. Rezultati raziskav odprtega časa so pokazali, da nobeno vezivo na vodni osnovi nima zadovoljivega odprtega časa. V kolikor hibridnim in tribridnim vezivom dodamo aditiv za podaljšanje odprtega časa pa se v odprtem času zelo približamo topilnim sistemom. Najbolje so se izkazali glikoli, predvsem etilen glikol in geminisurfaktant. V sijaju, odprtem času in razlivnosti se je topilna referenca izkazala malenkost bolje. Mehanske lastnosti vodnega premaza zelo zavisijo od izbire veziva, v zatekanju pa je vodni sistem primerljiv s topilnim. Bistvena je razlika v viskoznosti topilnih in vodnih premazov pri visokih strižnih napetostih, zaradi česar lahko topilne premaze nanesemo v večjih debelinah, kar na koncu lahko doprinese tudi k izboljšanim mehanskim lastnostim in boljši razlivnosti.

Title:Influence of type of binder and additive on properties of waterborne coating comparing to solvent paint
Abstract:The purpose of the study is to determine what type of water-based binder enables the formulation of the coating which has the most comparable properties comparing to alkyd solvent system and which additive allows extended open time to the level that it is possible to achieve good application properties. The purpose is also to determine rheology profiles of aqueous coatings and compare them to a solvent system. In the frame of the master's thesis different binders were tested which are based on new technologies and the final properties were compared to a conventional alkyd solvent system. Rheological curve, yield point, storage modulus, open time, sagging, levelling and mechanical properties of the samples were determined. Since rheological measurements do not say much, we tried to find a correlation with measurements of sagging and levelling. To each binder, a series of additives were added and open time was analysed. The results of the open time showed that no water-based binder has satisfactory open time. However, if a hybrid or tribrid binder is used and some additives are added to prolong open time, properties quite close to those of a solvent system can be obtained. The best are glycols, especially ethylene glycol and gemini surfactants. In gloss, open time and levelling the solvent reference performed slightly better. Mechanical properties of the aqueous coating are highly dependent on the choice of binder, while in sagging the water system is comparable to the solvent system. One of the main differences of the solvent system compared to water-based coatings is the difference in the viscosity at high shear stress, which enables solvent coating to be applied to a higher thickness, which in the end may also contribute to improved mechanical properties and better levelling.
