Abstract:
Zavest o pomenu motenj spanja raste in vzbuja vedno več zanimanja. Zbrani podatki so bili statistično analizirani.

Title:
HOW SLEEP DISORDERS IN PATIENTS WITH PARKINSON’S DISEASE AFFECT THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS
Abstract:
Theoretical background: Knowledge about various factors that affect the quality of life is needed to provide guidelines how to cope with the disease. One of the general factors that affect the quality of life was identified in sleep quality. Unfortunately, sleep disorders are closely connected to Parkinson’s disease and may therefore also affect sleep quality of their family carers. Aim: To follow the sleep quality in patients with Parkinson’s disease and establish how Parkinson’s disease affects the sleep quality of family carers (spouses). Methods: Quantitative research was conducted with the use of structured questionnaires. Data obtained was statistically analysed. Results: Our results indicated that poorer sleep quality of patients with Parkinson disease affects the sleep quality of family carers. It was also concluded that the sleep quality of patients with Parkinson’s disease affects to some extent family carers’ daily sleepiness. Conclusions: According to our results poorer sleep quality of patients with Parkinson’s disease did not affect family carers’ subjective evaluation of own sleep quality; however it did affect on the number of nocturnal wakings. Nocturnal waking, in our opinion, provides a more reliable indication for sleep disorders. This leads to the conclusion that family carers’ may in time get used to the poorer sleep quality.
