Abstract:
Teoretična izhodišča. V diplomskem delu smo predstavili avtizem in zdravstveno obravnavo otroka in družine z avtizmom. Rezultati. Rezultati raziskave so pokazali, da študenti obeh fakultet poznajo avtizem, vedo kje poteka zdravstvena obravnava otrok z avtizmom in kdo v njej vse sodeluje.

Title:
Children with autism
Abstract:
Teoretical introduction. In this diploma paper we presented the autism and medical treatment of a child and his or her family with autism. We explained what autism is and described its characteristics. We presented the pedopsyhiatric clinic and its operation. Here we focused on the medical treatment of children with autism, presented the nursing care process and highlighted the three most frequent nursing diagnoses on a child with autism. In the empirical part of the thesis, we presented the results of the research, in which we wanted to determine the difference of treatment knowledge of children with autism among the interviewed students from two different faculties. Methodology of the research. The survey was based on quantitative methods of work. Data were collected using an anonymous questionnaire. The survey was conducted among the students of the Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor and the Faculty of Education, University of Maribor. The questionnaire consisted of 16 questions, where eleven of them were the closed-ended type of questions, two of them were the half-open type of questions and three of them were the open-ended type of questions. Results. The results of the survey showed that the students of both faculties know what autism is, they also know where the medical treatment of children with autism takes place and who participates in this treatment. Students are also quite familiar with the tasks of a nurse in a pedopsyhiatric clinic and with his or her work with a child with autism. Conclusion. Autism is an increasingly common developmental disorder. It is very important for the parents to visit the paediatrician, as soon as they notice some changes in child's development. Medical treatment of children with autism is improving but not as much as we would like. The nurse plays an important role when dealing with children and parents, because she or he presents a link in the relationship between the medical team and the children and their parents.
