Abstract:Diplomsko delo obravnava spolno prenosljive bolezni, preventivo, informiranost mladostnikov o spolno prenosljivih boleznih in zaščiti, zdravstveno vzgojo mladostnikov in vlogo medicinske sestre, staršev in šole.

Title:SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES AND YOUNG PEOPLE
Abstract:The thesis deals with sexually transmitted diseases (STIs), prevention, informing adolescents about STIs and protection, health education of adolescents and the role of nurses, parents and schools. Through a questionnaire survey a research was conducted in January 2010, on a sample of 120 students of medical and cosmetic Central School of Maribor and the Central School of Hospitality and Tourism, New York, in 50:50 ratio. The aim of this study was to investigate the level of knowledge of students about sexually transmitted diseases, and differences in knowledge between the medical and culinary school students and to identify the source of information on sexually transmitted diseases. We also wanted to evaluate their knowledge of protection from sexually transmitted diseases and the use of protection itself. I found out that all teenagers are aware of AIDS but the general knowledge about other sexually transmitted diseases is deemed poor. Teenagers may know a lot about consequences and transmission of sexual diseases but they lack the knowledge about protection and medication for it. The protection for sexually transmitted diseases is well known and in more than 60% teenagers use it. We found out that medical school students are better informed about STIs than catering school students although the difference is small.
