Title:Primary school library as motivation for reading
Abstract:With the introduction of the concept of nine-year primary school in Slovenia, the educational system has been renovated and that also included the concept of school library and its importance became greater. The librarians play an important role as far as the reading is concerned. In many ways they can stimulate the reading motivation and literacy; however, the success depends most of all on students’ parents, secondly also on cooperation of all teachers and the librarian. Nowadays, working conditions in a library are very different from those in the past. The librarian is not only an employee waiting peacefully on retirement, but is someone who understands the meaning of reading and literacy. The purpose of this diploma work is to enlighten the importance of primary school library, to show countless possibilities, which with support of the superiors and with collaboration with teachers influence students’ greater motivation for reading. Moreover, its purpose was to verify the conditions in the actual library and to find solutions for better functioning of the library and with that to stimulate students so that they will gladly return to school library knowing how to find information and become enthusiastic for reading which would become indispensable part of their life. Diploma work confirmed the hypothesis.
