Title:MATHEMATICAL PROBLEMS IN THE BOOK THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT TIME
Abstract:With the introduction of the new school system which lasts nine instead of eight years, much has changed even in mathematics. The main task for the teacher is no longer only to give information but to qualify the students to find the information they need on their own and to then use it for a successful solution of the problems. Like any other skill the problem solving is a practical skill, which we are able to assimilate with imitating and with exercise. For that, we need good problems. We also have to know meaning of concepts problem solving, solving the problems as a way of learning, how to find good mathematical problems and how to solve them. Mark Haddon's book The curious incident of the dog in the night-time contains a lot of mathematical problems that we could use for teaching mathematics. Asperger's syndrome is a development disorder, because of which the main character Christopher is a mathematical genius. This final thesis could be a great help for teachers who are ready to put a little more time in the preparation of mathematics lessons and also make their lessons more interesting by including literature for children and solving mathematical problems in their mathematics lessons. The lessons would be more interesting and the knowledge longer lasting and useful.
