V 70. letih prejšnjega stoletja se je kot odgovor na to pojavil multikulturalizem, katerega predstavniki verjamejo, da v sodobnih pogojih kulturne heterogenosti načela, ki so slepa za razlike, ljudem ne omogočajo enakosti in svobode.
