Title:Relaxation techniques and their application among slovenian cyclists
Abstract:The main aim of the paper was to determine if relaxation techniques affect the preparation for cyclist training and competition. I wanted to present and study relaxation techniques and their use in cyclists aged from 15 to 23. Carrying out a survey, I focused on the use of and familiarity with relaxation techniques. The small sample of cyclists participating in the survey made it hard to generalize results of the paper on the entire population of cyclists. The survey included 20 cyclists from different Slovenian cyclist clubs. The main conclusion of this paper was that methods of preparation for competition vary from one athlete to another. I can conclude that relaxation techniques are something cyclists are familiar with but very rarely use in practice. As anticipated, among individual relaxation techniques, cyclists most often opt for breathing exercises. In the survey, I also studied the relationship of cyclists with their family and trainer. Cycling, especially mountain biking, is an individual sport, which practically means that each athlete has their own trainer, who prepares an individual plan for them. Some are more connected with their trainer than others and feel better with them present. The same goes for the influence of their parents and family. Most of them feel better if they have the support of their family and are not bothered by their presence in competitions.
