Title:Kindergarten children and their attitude toward animals
Abstract:The thesis titled "Kindergarten children and their attitude toward animals" consists of a theoretical and empirical part. In the theoretical part, we summarized the existing findings of professional literature regarding the general significance of animals in children's development, both positive and negative, and provided a detailed presentation of the influence of animals on children's emotional and social development. Furthermore, we described factors affecting a child's attitude towards animals, such as prejudice, fear, attachment, aggression, death, and the role of adults in the development of relationships. Finally, we summarized the importance of animals in educational institutions and presented animal-assisted therapy and its positive effects. In the empirical part, we conducted a study on preschool children's attitudes towards animals, including their reactions to animals, care for them, fears, aggressive behaviours, loss of animals, and the influence of animals' presence in preschool. We were also interested in how attitudes towards animals vary according to the child's gender and age. Data for the study were obtained through an online survey questionnaire involving parents of preschool children. After completing the survey, we processed the results using the statistical program SPSS and interpreted them. The results showed that children like animals, react positively to their presence, participate in caring for them, do not exhibit aggressive behaviour towards them, and in most cases, animals have not yet been present in the preschool environment.
